Carnivores
|One of the wildlife groups we will focus on in this module, are the carnivores. Carnivores are animals that eat meat. As scientists, we can determine if an animal is a carnivore due to the specialized teeth, or sharp incisors, of the species that make it easier to tear through meat. Carnivores are predators meaning they hunt other animals (prey) for food. Carnivores play a special role in the food web as predators in controlling prey populations. This type of interaction is found in an ecosystem. An ecosystem is a system that includes all living (biotic) and nonliving (abiotic) things in an area that function together as a unit.
