Located high on the west central slopes of Volcan Mountain, the 420-acre Russell Homestead property is the next critical piece to help protect Volcan Mountain – the capstone of the River Park.
Located just a few miles north of Julian, the property – home to a mixed conifer, oak and cedar forest, rugged canyons, seasonal ponds, 22 sensitive plant species, 39 sensitive animal species and 30 different vegetation communities – consists of 20 ‘ready to develop’ lots.
The purchase agreement has been executed, and the Conservancy is raising $250,000 to assist with the purchase. Our partners in the purchase are the Volcan Mountain Preserve Foundation, The Nature Conservancy and the County of San Diego. If the agreement isn’t fulfilled, the lots could be developed. The market may not be conducive to quick development – but that will change. The property owner has agreed to the sale with the condition that the transaction must proceed in the near-future. The deal must be completed NOW.
