Special Insider’s Tour of the San Dieguito Lagoon

The $86 million Wetlands Restoration Project at the San Dieguito Lagoon is complete and has attracted numerous marine and bird species back to what was once one of San Diego County’s largest estuaries.  This special tour will take participants inside the restoration project to areas not open to the public during the winter bird migratory season, which brings hundreds of avian species to the wetlands, so bring your binoculars!  

Dr. Pete Bloom and Dr. Steve Schroeter (UC Santa Barbara, Marine Science Institute) will be along to discuss the science of wetland recovery and the 180 bird species that have come back to the lagoon.  Our new Executive Director, Lynne Anne Baker, will be along to share the future plans and next steps for the Conservancy at the Lagoon.

INCLUDES:  Guided hike and lecture with gourmet pastries, coffee and juice.

Time: 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Location: San Dieguito Lagoon, Del Mar
Difficulty: Easy. This will be a combination walk/bus tour.
Donation: $25 for Conservancy Members.  This hike is a benefit for New Conservancy Members joining at the $35 or greater level.

Advance reservations are required.  All donations are tax-deductible. Participation is limited in number to ensure a quality experience for all. Due to the need for restricted access, directions and other details will be provided upon registration.

Green Day!

A Nature Centered St. Patrick’s Day

Join us for this family-friendly event in the Lagoon and walk, bike, and bird watch with your neighbors in support of one of San Diego’s most celebrated natural treasures – the 55-mile San Dieguito River Park. Show your true color - Green! 

9:00am:  Wagon, Tricycle and Stroller Strut
10:00am:  Opening Ceremony
10:30am:  Birding Hour / Quiet Time
12:00pm:  Bicycle Parade

Decorate your spokes, scopes, strollers and bring your favorite elf to see the wonderful birds on the calm lagoon water.  Come out for the ‘Wear’n O’ the Green’ at the San Dieguito Lagoon.

Dogs on leash are welcome!
